Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute (KAERI) and the National Research Council of Science & Technology (NST) jointly held the inaugural Good Morning, Science on October 7, 2026, at the Four Seasons Hotel Seoul, bringing together around 50 participants, including science and technology representatives from foreign diplomatic missions in Korea.
Designed as a new platform for regular exchange, Good Morning, Science connects Korea’s government-funded research institutes with the international community through research briefings, open discussions, and networking, creating opportunities to identify shared interests and potential areas of collaboration.
The inaugural event opened with remarks by Yeungshik Kim, Chairperson of NST, followed by a congratulatory address from Sung-Hoon Hwang, Director General for International Cooperation at the Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT), and welcoming remarks by Dr. Ki-Yong Choi, Senior Vice President of KAERI.

As the first participating research institute, KAERI presented “Future Nuclear Energy for the AI Era: Focusing on Small Modular Reactors (SMRs),” highlighting its latest nuclear R&D activities and SMR technologies. The presentation led to an open exchange on the evolving role of nuclear energy in the AI era and opportunities for future international cooperation.
Dr. Choi emphasized that many of KAERI’s achievements have been made possible by the cooperation and trust of the international community, reaffirming KAERI’s commitment to working with partners worldwide toward a safer and more sustainable future.
Through Good Morning, Science, KAERI continues to strengthen its global network and turn dialogue into new opportunities for collaboration.
