Radiation Breeding
Overview
Radiation breeding technology is exposing various tissue/organisms such as seeds, plants and tissue culture samples to radiation in order to generate mutants with desirable traits to be bred with original trait. Radiation causing the change (break, substitute, rearrangement) in chromosomes and DNA. Mutation occurring under natural environment condition (spontaneous mutation), therefore radiation breeding is safe and is known as one of breeding method. In worldwide, radiation breeding is applied for development of new cultivars with various crops.
