Neutron Radiography Facility
Neutron Radiography FacilityNRF Neutron Radiography Facility
- The Neutron Radiography Facility (NRF) obtains images of neutron penetration with subjects of experiment by taking advantage of the high penetration ability of neutrons. It was the first instrument installed in HANARO in 1997. It conducts measurement with a wide range of samples, such as defense materials, aerospace components, hydrogen fuel-cell batteries for automobiles, archaeological remains, and agricultural products and plants. Especially since the beginning of the 21st century, cutting-edge technologies have been developed and utilized, such as phase contrast method and neutron tomography. In addition, the neutron imaging research group of HANARO developed a neutron imaging analysis method for the specific purpose of real-time analysis of hydrogen fuel-cell batteries while driving and improvement of their performance, and has engaged in a joint research project with Hyundai-Kia motor companies from 2012 on to enhance the durability and performance of fuel-cell batteries. The outcome of this research helped the automakers to mass-produce the world’s first commercial automobiles running on fuel-cell batteries in 2013 and export them to European markets.
